Short-Term Running Goals:

Get the hip issues sorted out. Almost there, the hip flexors get tired easily again, but we are getting there.

New goal is to continue to train during the winter, up my mileage and do some weight training and yoga. Decided to make my spring focus on a half marathon and wait until fall 2009 for the full. Focus more on healthy eating as well, the whole family deserves it.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Second marathon sometime in the fall.

Train through the winter for as spring half marathon.

Someday BQ.

Personal:

2.5 miles on the treadmill and then 2.5 on the elliptical, my quads were screaming at me on the elliptical, I guess that is showing me I need to work them more ;). I kept having a side stitch while in the treadmill, that's why I switched tot he elliptical. I think I need to start taking my vitamins again. I did have a salad with mandarin oranges for lunch today, no dressing :).

I have a question for you smarties, I have never been a breakfast eater, but I try to have something for breakfast otherwise I don't eat lunch either and then I'm starving at 4pm and don't want to stop eating until bedtime, not a good cycle. Today I got a yogurt and a chocolate milk, mmm, but couldn't bring myself to eat the yogurt, I just feel naseous thinking about any type of food. How do I break this cycle? Thanks!

I'm a firm believer in breakfast. I love breakfast!

You've got to find something you want to eat for breakfast and it doesn't have to be a "breakfast" food. I have oatmeal and turkey bacon for breakfast pretty much every day, but you've got to find what works for you. Maybe you need to plan in the evening what you will have for breakfast the next day and do whatever you can to get it ready (put a box on the counter or something in the refrigerator, whatever). Plan time for breakfast into your morning schedule.

Why does skipping breakfast cause you to also skip lunch? If I skip breakfast (which I do only on Fast Sundays) I am starving by noon.

By the way, good job on the treadmill and the elliptical. I want to make sure you get your runs in so that you're ready to go for Ogden.

I don't get hungry like most people do and if I do get hungry it's really easy for me to suppress it. I do stuff like walk into the kitchen to make lunch and see the dirty dishes so I take care of that then leave, totally forgetting to eat and the next thing I know it's 3pm and I'm like "shoot, I forgot to eat" I know, I'm weird :).

I really want Ogden to be a much better experience than St. George, so base building has begun and the search for a good training program is also beginning.

I am glad you are back to working out; that might inspire your hunger. I am not sure how to advise since I could always eat. I am not a breakfast eater, but I DO eat after every run; you should consider it fuel for the next run not food. I don't like breakfast foods as such and will eat very ecletic things: burgers, sandwiches, soup, grilled cheese sandwich. Just eat whatever works for you and is healthy and refuels your body; otherwise your training will always be off. You can't drive a car without gas!!! Waiting until day's end just throws off your blood sugar and makes you overeat and often, poor choices. Watch the sugar content no matter what!

I use Glovers' Competitive Runner's Handbook for my training. They have different levels and encourage a strong base program....

I love breakfast, but I never eat before I run, not even on marathon day. That's just me. I run better on empty, and start fueling during the run if it's over 10 miles. After running, my favorite food is whatever leftovers I saved from dinner, fruit, and/or hard boiled eggs.

I am so glad you are focused on your aerobic base building!! Therein lies the path to a really FUN marathon day.

I never eat before a weekday run, but I generally have a bowl of oatmeal before a long run.

I like a banana after running. And chocolate milk.
