Short-Term Running Goals:

Get the hip issues sorted out. Almost there, the hip flexors get tired easily again, but we are getting there.

New goal is to continue to train during the winter, up my mileage and do some weight training and yoga. Decided to make my spring focus on a half marathon and wait until fall 2009 for the full. Focus more on healthy eating as well, the whole family deserves it.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Second marathon sometime in the fall.

Train through the winter for as spring half marathon.

Someday BQ.

Personal:

I am married, since June of 1996. We have three kids, my daughter is 12 and two sons 8 and 6.

I am also a Deaf Studies student at UVU with an interpreting emphasis.

First run since Hobble Creek and my fender bender. My hip and back feel great so I decided to just take it slow and see how it goes. I had a few little twinges at first, but nothing at the hip or back so I kept going, once I was warmed up I felt great and kept it easy.

I look forward to tomorrow's run and hope it goes well too.

I slept in this morning, out of the habit of getting up early, but it ended up working out ok. I don't like all the cars on the road though, too many gawkers staring at me :P. My hip felt tired at about halfway through this run :(. It's kind of tight right now, so we'll see what the new Chiro and my family practice Dr's have to say.

My parents called yesterday, they are planning in being at the marathon to cheer me on, they want to know if it's still on if not they will go to my Uncle's wedding the next weekend instead. So now I've got the guilt of them missing his wedding :S.

Planned on running 9 but my hip and groin were a bit sore/tight, so I cut the run short. I'm getting a bit worried that I wont be ready for St. George, I'm happy to be running again and that things seem to be mending though. Maybe I can do a 2 week taper rather than 3 :S.

Pretend the date says Sunday 9/7, I have Monday as the first day of the week for me, so this blog is a little off on that, I wanted to keep this with this weeks totals so I changed the date.

I was feeling pretty good today so I decided to go ahead and try out the long run, I kept it really slow the first few miles to give my tendons and muscles time to warm up properly. I ended up with a pretty strong headwind for the first 6 miles or so, so those all ended up being pretty slow too. I started to feel tired at 15.5 miles in or so but nothing hurt so I just kept going. I am pretty tired and I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow, but I'm so excited to have made it that far. My farthest run up until now was 16 miles, so this is a new distance for me :).

I decided to do a 2 week taper rather than 3, so next week will be a step back week and then the big 20 the week after that.

I started this run late again, I'm having trouble sleeping for some reason. Anyway, I decided that it was time to try a new route and out I went. It was a nice run, included a little bit of gravel trail, some uphill and some downhill. I will definitely do this route again on Thursday.

My hip is a little sore today, but nothing as bad as last week. I have to walk a lot at school too, so I'm sure that's part of it, nothing I can do about that though.

This week is super busy for me, so I'm glad it's a step back week, I probably will have to run all 4 runs in a row with no off day, couldn't do that if it was next week when I do my 20 :).

I sure hope this sleepless nights issue resolves itself quickly. I'm really not liking the unable to sleep until 5 am when I should be getting up to run soon, trend.

Anyway, set out to do 9, started having some *ahem* issues and had to walk for about 1/2 mile, took the kids to school and lost all motivation. So I guess I'll do 9 on Saturday since tomorrow I need to do my 14 miler.

My hip felt great the whole time, but my butt decided to be weird instead, great. All feels fine now, so we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Hi, remember me? hehe.

I got a good 5 miler in this morning and I plan on breaking Sasha's rules by running 20 tomorrow. Which means I'll run way more in my long run than I did during the week. I may do a really slow 5 recovery on Sunday to bring me up to 30 for the week, we'll see.

I found out that I haven't been pushing off with my right foot, but have been using my hip/butt to swing my leg around. I practiced pushing off and I ended up going way faster (for me) with less effort, imagine that. So we'll see how the 20 goes and then it's taper time :).

Woohoo!!! I did it, I ran my first 20 miler :). My right shin kept cramping up for the first 2 miles, so I started wondering if this was going to happen. I then decided that it was all in my head and at the next light, I was going to just stand and wait for the light rather than massaging, stretching it out at every opportunity. amazingly, it worked! So the next 10 or so miles were really uneventful, which was nice. It did sprinkle a little bit, but not enough to really get me wet or cold, which was nice.

I realized at about 14 miles that I was really hungry. I wanted real food, so I guess I need to better plan the pre-long run meal. I had some applesauce beforehand and that was it. I hate eating in the morning, so I was proud of eating anything at all.

I started feeling pretty tired at 15 miles and decided that each break I would text my husband for some encouragement, worked quite well. With 2 miles to go, my knees and feet were really hating me, I think they decided they needed to leave my body and go live with someone else ;).

I got home and drank some Ovaltine and took a cold bath. I was so tired that I just drained the tub and filled it with hot water rather than taking a shower. Now, 3 hours later, I'm still tired but my knees and feet don't hate me so much and the rest of me feels pretty good.

 Taper, here I come :)

Very chilly morning, but the run warmed me right up :). I had a cramp in my right shin for almost the whole run, very annoying. I did stop and stretch twice and rubbed it, it helped enough that I decided to just keep going. I think I'm a little dehydrated so I'll work on that today.

The nerves and jitters have begun, less than two weeks 'til show time!

My leg kept cramping again this time and I am definitely hydrated, kind of frustrating. I was able to push through it this time and didn't have to walk. I hope my 12 miler tomorrow goes ok, I'm starting to worry a bit.

One week until we head down to St. George, I'm getting excited!

Well, I guess my plans to not have a big taper are now shot. At school everyone has been sick for about 2 weeks, I have avoided touching my face as much as possible, wash my hands every chance I get and have been trying to eat well. But a week ago my son came home with a cold then it went to my daughter and my other son. My body finally gave in and now I'm sick. I have a fever otherwise I would probably run some shorter runs, but I'm going to just take it easy and rest, drink lots of fluids and Vit C and hope that I get over it quick. Sigh.
