Short-Term Running Goals:

Get the hip issues sorted out. Almost there, the hip flexors get tired easily again, but we are getting there.

New goal is to continue to train during the winter, up my mileage and do some weight training and yoga. Decided to make my spring focus on a half marathon and wait until fall 2009 for the full. Focus more on healthy eating as well, the whole family deserves it.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Second marathon sometime in the fall.

Train through the winter for as spring half marathon.

Someday BQ.

I started this run way later than normal, so it was pretty warm at the start. I ran up to Bridal Veil Falls and then turned around and ran back, the last two miles were pretty brutal, but I pushed it hard and finished in a good for me time :).

This is the first time I've run this race and the first 1/2 marathon in 2 years. I am training for St. George and Hobble Creek is touted as the perfect tune-up for the marathon, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Plus I really hate how disorganized the Provo River 1/2 is, so I have been looking for a different race.

I ended up having cramping in my abs for the entire race, not fun. I would also love if the race could start an hour earlier, it got really hot by mile 7 or so. And there were a lot more hills than I was expecting, though the little messages people wrote on the road were really fun, at the bottom of one hill it said "whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger" written as you go up that hill, funny. My favorite was "this isn't as hard as childbirth" well, in childbirth I can get drugs to numb the pain, lol.

Anyway, on to the splits, hopefully someday I can find someone that runs my pace to help me even out the splits some.

Mile 1 - 10:25 very crowded at the start
Mile 2 - 10:10 still trying to get my groove
Mile 3 - 10:38 water stop and stretch the abs
Mile 4 - 9:42 nice downhill
Mile 5 - 9:56
Mile 6 - 9:42 found someone to pace with, but he drops back at the aid station :(
Mile 7 - 10:10 aid station and out onto the main road
Mile 8 - 10:11 mean hill
Mile 9 - 10:06
Mile 10 - 10:33 aid station
Mile 11 - 10:48 aid station and walk to stretch again
Mile 12 - 10:43 it's hot!
Mile 13 - 9:08 Garmin reads 12.92 miles, so this really is a 9:56 pace

Per Garmin 2:12:16 :). Official results still aren't up yet, so I don't know the seconds, just 2:13:xx

I was in a fender bender last week after the race, I think I did something to my hip in the accident. Yesterday was a planned rest day, which I really needed. Legs. Sore. Ouch. But today I was going to do an easy 4, I got up to get ready and my hip is not happy with me :(. I'm going to see if I can get into the chiropractor today and hopefully I can squeeze my 4 miles in later.

Legs are feeling much better today, just gotta fix the hip :)

Bad-ish news. I think I will post on the training forums too, to get some advice.

I went to my chiropractor this morning, my hip and lower back were really out of alignment and my hip is really swollen still so he wasn't able to get them aligned all the way yet :(. He wants me to not sit for more than 30 minutes at a time, yeah that will be fun during my classes this week :P. And no running, biking, or walking long distances until mid September. I'm in week13 of Hal Higdon's novice marathon training, supposed to do my 18 miler this week and my 20 miler mid September. Not sure what this will mean for my marathon goals, I'm supposed to run St. George for my 1st marathon and my long run is 16 miles. I'm pretty bummed out :(
